ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's swimming & diving team turned in several strong performances at the Roger Ahlman Invitational, hosted by Macalester Friday and Saturday at Riley Pool. The Scots placed second among four teams, scoring 794 points behind only Morningside, which had 944 points.
Four Scots earned victories this weekend, with sophomore
Kean Pajarillaga (Saipan, Marianas Pacific/Grace Christian Academy) winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:46.07 and the 100-yard backstroke in 51.67. First year
Edward Barnes (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) finished first in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:12.86 and third in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:49.71. Senior
Will St. John (McGaheysville, Va./East Rockingham) won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.62. Sophomore
Bode Thompson (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) captured the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.14.
Other Scots swimming well included sophomore
Boden Allen (Los Angeles, Calif./Redondo Union), who was second in the 200 butterfly in 2:06.91. Senior
TJ Palli (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) placed second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.23 and took third in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.09. First year
Jamie Soutter (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) was second in the 100 backstroke in 56.24. Sophomore
Jack Schumacher (Golden, Colo./Lakewood) took third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.72, and first year
Isaac Snaza (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) finished third in the 1650-yard freestyle in 18:04.39 and third in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:32.69. First year
Gunnar Ray (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) placed third in the 100 backstroke in 58.85.
In the relays, the foursome of Pajarillaga, St. John, Schumacher and Palli placed second in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:30.89. Pajarillaga, Allen, sophomore
Max Taufen (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and Barnes finished second in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:18.66. The 200-yard medley relay team of Pajarillaga, St. John, Schumacher and Palli was second in 1:37.04. Taufen, senior
Casey Meretta (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), Soutter and Palli took second in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.80, and Palli, Taufen, Meretta and Pajarillaga finished second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:12.96.
The Roger Ahlman Invitational is the final competition of the semester. The Scots will return to competition on Jan. 17 at home against St. Olaf.
