WHITEWATER, Wis. – Four members of the Macalester College women's tennis team competed in the ITA Midwest Regional, hosted by UW-Whitewater Sept. 24-26. Additionally, two Scots participated in the Midwest Open, also at UW-Whitewater.
In the regional singles tournament, sophomore
Sydney Ellison (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park) won her first match in straight sets over Sofia Walker of St. Catherine before losing to Luther's Natalia Smith, 6-3, 6-4. Junior
Amalin Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and sophomore
Amanye Reynolds (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) both lost their first matches in three sets, while sophomore
Meg Ulrich (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) fell in straight sets in her first match.
In doubles, Macalester's tandems of Ellison/Sorajja and Reynolds/Ulrich lost their first matches.
In the Midwest Open, junior
Avery Munster (San Luis Obisbo, Calif./Mission) won a singles match over Maddie Kleinke of UW-La Crosse in three sets before losing to Gustavus' Lili Elofson in straight sets. Sophomore
Talia Chait (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) also competed in the singles draw, losing her first match. Chait and Munster combined to defeat a team from UW-La Crosse in the doubles draw, then lost to a duo from Concordia-Wisconsin in the second round.
The two tournaments mark the lone competitions during the fall for the women's tennis team, which resumes its season in the spring.
