St. Paul, Minn. - The Macalester College men's soccer team received five MIAC honors, as the conference announced its end of year awards for men's soccer today. First year
Hans Haenicke (Lisle, IL/Benet Academy) earned All-MIAC honors, while seniors
Jack Muller (Carmel, Ind./Carmel),
Cade Fink (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) and junior
Thomas Dono (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) were recognized as All-MIAC Honorable Mention. In addition, first year
Alexis Bromberg (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M. Gunn) was included on the MIAC All-Sportsmanship team.
Haenicke made a huge impact on the field, starting in 17 of 19 games, his first year as a Scot. In 19 games, Haenicke created many opportunities for himself, having 25 shots on goal. He scored eight goals for Macalester and tallied four assists. Haenicke ended the season with 20 points on the overall season, ranking sixth among MIAC members for the season and fourth in conference play (15 points). Haenicke is the second-highest ranked first-year in the conference this fall.
Dono started in 18 of 19 games, playing a large part in the Scots' offense, feeding the ball into the offensive third. He scored three goals of his own this season, including the game winner against Concordia. Dono also totaled two assists.
Muller, who was also a playmaker in the midfield, played in 17 games and started in 16. He put up one goal and two assists this season, including his assist on the game winning goal against Augsburg to move on to the MIAC Playoff semifinals.
Furthermore, Fink played a crucial role in net for Macalester this fall. Starting in all 17 games he played in, Fink stopped 70 shots this season, registering a save percentage of 75.3%. In conference play, he is ranked third among the MIAC goalkeepers, with a save percentage of 79.6%. Fink also tallied three shutouts this season.
In his debut season, Bromberg started in 16 of 19 games. He played a major role in Macalester's back line and even got in on the attack, assisting Haenicke's goal in the 3-1 win over Bethel.
The Scots finished their season with a record of 9-9-1 (5-4-1 MIAC).
