Women’s Swimming and Diving: Macalester Falls to Saint Benedict, 158-85

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Macalester women's swimming and diving team hosted the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday afternoon for a dual meet at Riley Pool, with the Bennies coming away with a 158-85 win. The Scots tallied four first-place finishes throughout the event.
 
First year Paige Stevenson (Raleigh, N.C./St. Mary's) had two of those first-place finishes for Macalester, taking first in the 200 Freestyle (2:03.51) and the 100 Freestyle (56.90). Stevenson also contributed to the 200 Medley Relay team, who finished second with a time of 1:55.82. Also on that relay team was Ana Thompson (Minnetonka, Minn./Orono), Grace Madigan (Middleton, Wis./Middleton), and Frances Redpath (Helena, Mont./Helena).
 
Teammate and fellow first year Malia Borg (Charleston, S.C./Academic Magnet) finished right behind Stevenson in the 200 Free, taking second with a time of 2:09.48. Borg also teamed up with Redpath, Zoe Machmer Frederick (Omaha, Neb./Lincoln East), and Kinsey Stewart (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) to take second in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:50.69).
 
In addition to her two relays, Redpath added a win for the Scots in the 200 Butterfly, finishing in 2:19.83. Junior Zoe Schopick (Winchester, Va./James Wood) also competed in that event for Macalester, taking third with a time of 2:24.16.
 
Senior diver Francesca Gillis (River Forest, Ill./Trinity) had the final win for the Scots, finishing first in the 3M dive with a score of 244.80. Gillis also finished third in the 1M dive with a score of 220.70.
 
Madigan, besides contributing to a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, also took second in the 50 Freestyle (26.31) and 200 Breaststroke (2:42.92). First year Grace Turner (Northborough, Mass./Worcester Academy) and sophomore Betsy Foy (Omaha, Neb./Harry A. Burke) also had top-three finishes in the meet, with Turner finishing third in the 1000 Freestyle (12:09.01) and Foy finishing third in the 400 Individual Medley (5:13.16).
 
The Scots will compete again next Friday, hosting Carleton College at Riley Pool at 6 p.m. Live video will be available and the link can be found on the schedule page.
