PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Macalester College men's and women's golf team traveled to Palm Desert, Calif., for several practice rounds and a competition against Occidental College over Spring Break.
The Scots played practice rounds at Tradition Golf Club, The Quarry Golf Club and the Reserve Golf Club. A highlight of the week was playing The Reserve Club with Jeff Larson and his wife Janet. Jeff is a Macalester graduate and a member of the Board of Trustees, and the Larson's hosted the teams at their home for dinner following the round.
Against Occidental, the women's team lost, 180-219, with first year
Izzy Hebert (Westminster, Colo./Legacy) and junior
Ji Sue Song (Surrey, B.C./Southridge School) competing for Macalester. The men's team, which lost 241-272, was led by senior
Jack Buan (Osseo, Minn./Wayzata), followed by sophomore
Alex Young-Williams (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) and first year
Jim Smith (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg).
Both teams resume their spring schedules on Apr. 14-15, with the men competing in a triangular with Carleton and St. Olaf at Willingers Golf Club, and the women playing in the Battle at the Creek at Pebble Creek Golf Club.
