ST. PETER, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team played in the ITA Midwest Regional Friday and Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus. The Scots had five singles players and three doubles teams compete in the tournament.
In the singles competition, first year
Natali Sorajja (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) won her first match over Danny Rojas of St. Scholastica before falling in the second round. Another first year in
Laurel Hickey (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) was victorious in the first round with a win over Cornell's Abbey Nelson. Senior
Maegan O'Herin (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) also won her first-round match against Bri Dorr of St. Catherine. Senior
Lily Stein (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) and sophomore
Claire Buehler (Houston, Texas/Awty International School) both won consolation matches.
In doubles, Hickey and Sorrajja defeated Ellen Stensrud and Mackenzie Schurhamer of St. Benedict, 8-1 in the first round.
Macalester also participated in the Gusties Fall Invite, with senior
Lee Guekguezian (Newtonville, Mass./Newtonville North) winning a first-round match against Chloe McElmury of Hamline. Sophomore
Camilla Bendetti (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr School) also won a match in the consolation bracket.
