NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the St. Olaf/Carleton Tournament on Saturday at Carleton. The Scots, who lost to UW-River Falls in four sets before beating Crown College in three sets, are now 2-2 on the season.
Against UW-River Falls, Macalester lost the first two sets, 25-16 and 25-12 before taking the third set, 25-23. Senior outside hitter
Clara Baumann (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) tallied four kills in the third set. But the Falcons responded with a 25-21 win in the fourth set to take the match. Senior outside hitter
India Medaris (Napa, Calif./Justin Siena) paced the Scots with 11 kills and 14 digs. First year middle hitter
Sofia Parmelee (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) notched eight kills and a .313 hitting percentage, with Baumann tallying seven kills and eight digs. Junior setter
Sofi Ascencio (Oakland, Calif./Holy Names) recorded 29 assists, with first year defensive specialist
Abrielle Dillon (Brown Deer, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) adding 11 digs.
In the late match, Macalester cruised to a 25-12, 25-15, 25-10 sweep of Crown. Baumann led the way with 15 kills and 12 digs, while junior outside hitter
Nicole Bennington (Shelton, Wash./Olympia) contributed a career-best nine kills. Medaris added seven kills and seven digs, while junior setter
Emily Bowler (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay) dished out 30 assists to go with seven digs. Dillon sparked the defense with 15 digs.
Next up for Macalester is a non-conference match at Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday, Sept. 6, beginning at 8:00 p.m. in Mankato, Minn.
