ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming and diving team competed in a dual meet with Grinnell College at Riley Pool in the Leonard Center on Saturday. The Scots, who lost, 182-110, were led by junior
Smaranda Georgescu (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley).
Georgescu won two individual events, taking the 50 yard freestyle in 25.17 seconds and winning the 100 freestyle in a time of 55.01. She also helped Macalester win two relays, combining with seniors
Maggie McKenna (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry Gunn) and
Kendall Van Sistine (Oshkisk, Wis./Lourdes) and sophomore
Kaia Lund (Mondovi, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial) to take the 200 medley relay in 1:57.18. Georgescu, juniors
Kaila Chapman (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial ) and
Hannah Bonestroo (Ames, Iowa/Ames) and first year
Olivia Borgmann (Seattle, Wash./Garfield) won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:49.17.
Lund had the Scots' other first place finish, as she won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.03. Bonestroo placed second in the 1650 yard freestyle with a season-best time of 20:15.48. McKenna finished just off the lead in the 500 freestyle with a second-place time of 5:36.54, .52 seconds behind Grinnell's Becca Teske. Junior diver
Anik Regan (Tucson, Ariz./University) was second in the 1-meter event with a score of 178.05.
Macalester's next meet is the MIAC Championships, which will be held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center on Feb. 18-20.
