ST. PAUL, Minn – Macalester College softball took on Augsburg College in a Wednesday evening MIAC doubleheader. The Scots earned two wins, sweeping the Auggies after taking game one, 4-3 and winning the second contest 2-1.
Macalester improves to 16-9 overall and 4-4 in the MIAC. They move up in the conference standings to sit in the mix of a three-way tie for fifth place. The Scots will continue action on Friday, April 10 when they host St. Thomas (23-5 overall, 7-3 MIAC) in a pair of games at the Macalester Softball Complex. Friday will also serve as Senior Night for the Scots.
Game One: Macalester 4, Augsburg 3In Wednesday's first game, Augsburg was quick to score as they tacked one run across the plate in the top of the first. The Scots quickly evened things out by tying it up in the bottom of the inning after
Hali Englert hit an RBI single to score
Abby Cox.
The Scots added two more runs in the bottom of the second thanks to a homerun by
Brittany Ehmann (her third of the season) and a steal to home by
Anna Munson.
Augsburg and Macalester each posted one more run in the third inning to make it a 4-2 game with Macalester leading heading into the fourth.
The Auggies scored their final run in the top of the fifth, allowing the Scots to ride out a 4-3 lead after six and a half innings.
Miranda Stokes earned the win on the mound, pitching seven complete innings and giving up seven hits and just one earned run. She struck out four as her record this season moved to 6-4.
Macalester finished with nine hits in the game.

Nikki Caicedo each finished with two hits in the game. Englert and Ehmann each collected an RBI.
Game Two: Macalester 2, Augsburg 1Augsburg scored a quick run in the top of the first and held a one run lead through three and half innings of play. Macalester tied it up at one-all in the bottom of the fourth as
Nikki Caicedo hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score
Abby Cox who reached on a leadoff base hit to left field.
The Scots scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth on another sacrifice fly, this time hit by
Hali Englert. The Scots held onto a 2-1 lead and retired three straight batters in the top of the seventh.
Macalester finished with seven hits in the game; the Auggies one.
Brittany Ehmann pitched seven complete, giving up one hit, one run and striking out five. Her record this season improves to 8-5.
Erin Slater led the way offensively, collecting two hits in the game.
