Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Milwaukee School of Engineering scored in the opening six minutes of both halves, with both coming from free kicks, and the Raiders held off Macalester late for a 2-0 victory.
Just four minutes, 22 seconds into the game, MSOE's Jerry Rubio headed home his first goal of the season after Marco Felizardo Alves' free kick from 45 yards found him inside the right side of the goalkeeper crease.
The Raiders controlled much of the first half of play and added to their lead in the sixth minute of the second half on another free kick. Logan Andryk's free kick, from left on the penalty box and 18 yards out, was drive across the top of the crease to Brock Shilling, who headed the ball back to the left and past
Zeke Vainer, who was unable to get back to the left post after tracking the ball to his right.
After that, the Scots began to control the game but were unable to convert there scoring chances, taking 15 shots during the final 45 minutes, six of which were saved and two of which hit the cross bar.
Macalester, after getting outshot, 8-5, in the first half, came back to hold a 20-13 advantage for the game.
Cole Erickson had a game-high five shots, three of which were on goal.
Zach Moore came off the bench to record four shots, with three on goal, while
Alan Schembri-Wismayer also had four shots.
Vainer recorded six saves in the contest while MSOE goalkeeper Garrett Farin had seven to earn the shutout victory.
Macalester returns to action this weekend when it hosts the Associated Colleges of the Midwest Showcase, Friday, the Scots take on Coe in a 4:30 p.m. game before facing Lake Forest, Sunday, at 2 p.m.
