The Macalester women's tennis team lost a tightly contested battle to St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon in Winona by a score of 5-4. The Scots drop to 2-6 in conference and 4-11 on the season.
The Scots had success against the Cardinals in the doubles matches, winning two out of the three. Katelyn Glenna (Winona, Minn.) and Carmen Whitehead (Sr., Greeley, Colo. / West) joined forces and won in a dominating performance by a score of 8-3.
Gabby Queenan (Jr., Bedford, Mass.) and Riley Menagh (Fy., Grand Island, Neb.) also won, but in a very competitive match. After being tied 8-8, Queenan and Menagh won the tiebreak to take the match 13-11.
In singles competition, No. 1 Glenna defeated her St. Mary's opponent Katie Krull 6-4,6,2, while Whitehead got the best of Grace Zachman 6-1,6-2 in No. 2 singles.
The Scots are back at it on Sunday afternoon in their regular season finale when they take Carleton. In what was originally scheduled at the Hayden Courts, the match has been moved to Lifetime Fitness Lakeville due to weather concerns.
