Baseball: Tommies defeat Scots

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
No. 4-ranked St. Thomas extended its home field victory streak to 31 games by sweeping Macalester 19-6 and 11-3 to remain unbeaten in MIAC play.  The Tommies scored 30 runs on the day to improve to 20-4 overall and 8-0 in the conference.  Macalester is 9-18 on the season and 2-6 in MIAC play.

The Tommies used a mid-game uprising in each game. Game one was tied 6-6 in the second inning before UST took control. Macalester led game two 3-2 after four innings but a seven-run fifth inning, aided by a two-out fielding error, a windblown triple and five walks, propelled the Toms.

In game one, each team scored four times in the first inning and two more times in the second.  Colin Carpenter (Jr., Harvard, Ill.) went 2-for-2 with a two-run double for the Scots.  Jimmy Belfont (Sr., Olney, Md. / Our Lady of Good Counsel) connected for a two-run homer to even the score at 6-6.

Carpenter added a two-run homer in game two and Nick Sia (Fy., Gambrills, Md. / South River) produced a couple hits and an RBI.

The Scots are right back in action tomorrow against Hamline at Midway Stadium.
