Macalester received solid starting pitching from
Nathan Kelleher-Crew (Jr., Cool., Calif. / Golden Sierra) and
Justin Kleschen (So., Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township) to sweep Concordia-Moorhead 4-2 and 8-6 at Nicholson Field. The Scots, playing for the first time since April 7, even their MIAC record at 2-2 and go to 9-14 overall.
Kelleher-Crew surrendered a couple runs in the top of the second inning in the opener, but kept the Cobbers off the board over the final five innings, scattering eight hits and walking just one for the game.
After being held hitless over the first three frames, Macalester begin its fourth inning with a leadoff
Nick Sia (Fy., Gambrills, Md. / South River) double and two-run homer to left by
Jimmy Belfont (Sr., Olney, Md. / Our Lady of Good Counsel). The go-ahead run came a few batters later on a
Colin Carpenter (Jr., Harvard, Ill.) suicide squeeze bunt. Mac added an insurance tally in the fifth on a
Tom Forster (So., Stillwater, Minn.) RBI single.
Concordia also led the second game 2-0 and once again the Scots came back, this time with three runs in their half of the third. Concordia regained the advantage at 4-3 with two in the fourth, before the Scots took the lead for good with four in the fifth with the help of five free passes. Kleschen gave up two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings, and
Chase Kahn (Jr., Cooper City, Fla. / American Heritage Plantation) got the final out to collect the save.
The suddenly-busy Scots play another doubleheader tomorrow at Bethel, play a pair Saturday at St. Thomas and play Sunday against Hamline at Midway Stadium.
