Nathan Kelleher-Crew (Jr., Cool, Calif. / Golden Sierra) pitched Macalester to a 4-1 victory in the second game of a late-night Metrodome doubleheader to lift the Scots to a sweep over Wisconsin-Stout. Macalester scored five times in the top of the second inning and held on to win the opening game 7-6.
The Scots head into the MIAC season with a 7-12 non-conference record.
Macalester had five hits in its big second inning of game one, including an run-scoring single by
Ross Bronfenbrenner (Jr., San Anselmo, Calif. / Marin Academy) and a two-run double by
Nick Sia (Fy., Gambrills, Md. / South River) . The Scots came up with a couple key insurance runs in the sixth without a hit, getting two walks and a sacrifice bunt to start things off, a Sia sacrifice fly for one run, and a passed ball for another.
Starter
Justin Kleschen (So., Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township) collected his first win and
Chase Kahn (Jr., Cooper City, Fla. / American Heritage Plantation) picked up his first save.
Kelleher-Crew scattered five hits to pick up his initial win of the year, giving up just one walk and an unearned run.
Justin Sims (Jr., Bronx, N.Y. / The Beacon School) went 2-for-2 with a triple, a walk and run scored. The Scots crossed the plate three times in the bottom of the fifth to go on top 4-0.
