Box Score
Macalester played solid football for much of the afternoon, but after making the short trip across the river to Minneapolis, came back with a 34-16 defeat to Augsburg, which wins for the 14th straight time in the series.
After Augsburg struck first to go up 7-0, but Macalester responded when a Konnor Flemming (Jr., Charlotte, Vt.. / Champlain Valley Union) 42-yard kickoff return set up the equalizing score – a 40-yard touchdown run by quarterback
Samson Bialostok (Jr., North Woodmere, N.Y. / Lawrence). Bialostock finished with 117 rushing yards to go along with 148 yards passing.
The Auggies scored their third touchdown to go up 21-7 just before the end of the first quarter. Macalester got back into the contest with a couple scores in the second quarter to cut the Augsburg lead to 21-16 at the break. The first of these second period Macalester scores came on a 35-yard halfback option pass from
Daniel Ricci (Sr., Menomonee Falls, Wis. / Brookfield Academy) to
C.J. Smith (Sr., Ashland, Wis.) and the second on an
Auburn Jimenez (Sr., East Los Angeles, Calif.) 47-yard field goal. The 47-yarder by Jimenez is two yards short of a school record and is his longest since a 44-yard kick in 2010.
Augsburg managed the game's only score of the third quarter, a touchdown to extend its advantage to 27-16, and closed out the scoring in the fourth on a 31-yard completion.
Macalester receiving leaders were Smith with five catches for 59 yards and
John Johnson (Sr., McKenzie, Tenn.) with five for 49.Â
Ben Hillmann (Jr., Watertown, Minn. / Watertown-Mayer) had four catches for 59 yards.
Topping the Macalester tackle chart Saturday was
Jole Miller (Jr., Missouri Valley, Ia.) with 12 stops to go along with a forced fumble and interception.Â
Glen Hartford (Fy., North Andover, Mass. ) was in on 11 tackles and broke up a pass.
