Box Score 2 Macalester extended its winning streak to five games by sweeping Bethany Lutheran 2-1 and 9-0 in St. Paul and boosts its record to 11-5 heading into tomorrow's MIAC opener at home against Carleton.
The Scots, who have allowed just three runs during their five-game streak, received standout pitching efforts from
Amanda Knopf (Sr., Boulder, Colo.) in game one and
Miranda Stokes (Fy., Perry, Utah / Box Elder) in the nightcap.
Knopf scattered seven hits and struck out seven batters and worked out of three bases-loaded jams, including one in the seventh to improve her record to 5-2 and lower her ERA to 1.31. Stokes pitched a five-inning shutout in game two to pick up her first collegiate win while surrendering only two BLC hits.
In the first game, Macalester scored one run in the opening inning on a Stokes run-producing single. The Scots added an important insurance run in the third when
Katie Fuller (So., Boulder, Colo.) singled in
Cleo Nagy (So., Eugene, Ore. / Henry D. Sheldon), who singled her way on base.
While Stokes was mowing down the Vikings, the Scots plated three first-inning runs and two more in the third to open up a commanding lead. Nagy, who is ranked among the national leaders in home runs, belted a two-run shot in the fourth for her seventh round-tripper of the year.
Nagy, Fuller,
Hali Englert (Fy., Castle Rock, Colo. / Castle View) and
Maddy Jasper (Fy., Corona, Calif. / Santiago) each picked up two hits in the game.
Stokes was 3-for-5 on the day to bring her batting average up to a team-best .476.
Macalester's MIAC-opening twinbill with Carleton tomorrow starts at 4:30 p.m.
