Season starts with split against UW-Stout

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Scots handed their new coach Jody Gabriel a win in her first Macalester game Sunday at the Rochester Dome as Mac toppled Wisconsin-Stout 8-4 in the opener of a doubleheader to start the 2012 campaign.  UW-Stout, however, came back to take the nightcap 14-1.

Cleo Nagy (So., Eugene, Ore. / Henry D. Sheldon) belted a pair of home runs in the first game to lead the attack, driving in leadoff batter Amanda Knopf (Sr., Boulder, Colo.) with a first-inning homer to deep center and driving in Knopf again in the third with a two-run shot over the left field fence to put Mac up 4-2.

Knopf pitched the first four frames to collect the win and Brittany Ehmann (Fy., Island Lake, Ill. / Wauconda) threw the final three innings to pick up the save.

Macalester extended its lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth on four hits.  Hali Englert (Fy., Castle Rock, Colo. / Castle View) had two hits on the game and made some nice plays from her third base position.

UW-Stout dominated the second game, crossing the plate five times in the first inning and eight times in the third.

Up next for Macalester is a twinbill with Minnesota-Morris next Tuesday (March 6) at the Rosemount Dome.
