Box Score
All-MIAC forward
Georgia Cloepfil (Jr., Portland, Ore. / Lincoln) kept Macalester's post-season hopes alive by scoring off her own deflected chance early in the second overtime period as the Scots held off St. Catherine 1-0 on Senior Day and Kick Cancer Day at Macalester Stadium. The college honored Macalester's 10 seniors - playing at home for the final time - and behind the efforts of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committe, raised funds for cancer research and awareness.
With Cloepfil's team-leading 11th tally of the season, the Scots improve to 8-6-1 with their third victory in four matches. The team's 4-4-1 MIAC slate puts Mac right in the thick of the race for one of four league post-season berths with two conference matches left on the slate. The Wildcats drop to 8-7 on the season, 3-6 in MIAC play.
The Scots had a 5-2 advantage on shots on goal and 10-0 lead in overall scoring chances, but needed their final three shots in the 103rd minute to put things away. All in one flurry, Macalester's
Hannah Walker (So., Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) blasted a shot off the post. Cloepfil's attempt to put in the deflection was turned away by an SCU defender, but the ball came right back to Cloepfil, who converted her second chance for the victory.
Neither team managed many scoring opportunities on the day. Mac goalkeeper
Rosie Glenn-Finer (Sr., San Francisco, Calif. / Lick-Wilmerding) played the opening half and overtime periods, and
Ellen Palmquist (Jr., Fort Collins, Colo. / Poudre) was in net in the second half to combine for the shutout. With another strong match by the defenders, the Scots register their sixth shutout of the year.
Macalester has a couple MIAC matches left in the regular-season: Wednesday (Oct. 24) at St. Mary's and Saturday (Sept. 27) at Gustavus Adolphus.
