Conference win streak jumps to nine

Macalester vs. Bethel box scores: Game 1 | Game 2

Macalester boosted its MIAC winning streak to nine games and extended its first-place lead in the standings to two games by sweeping Bethel 6-1 and 8-3 behind standout pitching from unbeaten starters Eric Robinson (Sr., San Francisco, Calif. / The Urban School) and Alex Ingram (Sr., Chicago, Ill. / Morgan Park Academy).

Winners of 14 of their past 16 games, the red-hot Scots are now 19-9 on the season and 11-1 in the MIAC, a couple games on top of St. Thomas (10-4), St. John's (10-4) and Hamline (10-4).

Coming into the day ranked first in the league in batting average and ERA, Macalester out-hit the Royals 23-14 in the two games. Garrett Salzman (Jr., Glendale, Calif. / St. Francis) and Robert Williams (Jr., West Covina, Calif./ Northview) were each 5-for-7 on the day, and Graham Brown (Jr., Annandale, Minn.) was 4-for-7. Saltzman blasted a grand slam to give Mac a 6-0 lead in the fourth inning of the nightcap and Williams followed that up one batter later with another homer.

Robinson gave up a home run in the fourth inning of game one, but that was all he surrendered in moving to 7-0 and lowering his ERA to 0.81. Meanwhile, the lineup scored runs in five of the first six innings. Brown, Salzman and Williams each contributed three hits and all three are batting over .350, while Brown and Williams drove in two runs apiece.

Ingram moves up to 6-0 with a 3.00 ERA after his game two complete game effort.  The Scots were up 8-0 before Ingram gave up his first run in the BU sixth.

The Scots look to keep their streak going Saturday (April 30) when they host St. Mary's for an MIAC twinbill at 2 p.m.
