Taylor Rasmussen (So., Eagan, Minn. / Eastview) scored off a pass from
Jake Duscha (So., St. Paul, Minn. / Highland Park) just 8:19 into the match and the Scots made that single goal stand up in a big 1-0 victory over visiting Carleton in a rematch of last year's MIAC playoff championship match. The Scots also won that one 1-0 to advance to the national playoffs.
Matt Weyer (Jr., Cedarburg, Wis.) was outstanding in goal, recording five saves to lower his goal against average on the season to 0.31 in six starts. Weyer has posted four shutouts in six starts, sacrificing just two goals while making 18 saves.
The Scots are now 12-0 over their last 12 matches at Macalester Stadium. Macalester is 8-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the MIAC with this crucial victory. The Knights, who still top the MIAC standings, are 5-3-1 on the season, 3-1-1 in league play.
Rasmussen's score was his fifth of the season, tying him for the team lead.
The Knights led 8-6 in shots on goal and 12-10 in total shots. Each team took five corners.
The Scots jump right back into action Friday when they host Bethel in a 6 p.m. MIAC match. At this early stage, no MIAC team owns a perfect record. Macalester has one defeat and no ties. Carleton, Augsburg and St. Thomas each have a loss and a tie. The importance of this win can be shown by the fact that if the Scots had lost, they would instead by tied for ninth place.
