Macalester vs. St. Scholastica statistics
The Scots gave their new head coach Kate Ryan Reiling a win in her first game at the program's helm as the Scots opened the 2010 season with a 2-0 triumph over St. Scholastica in Duluth. The game was a rematch of a first-round NCAA Division III playoff game from last year, which the Scots won 3-0.
Macalester wins its season-opener for the eighth time in nine years.
Macalester controlled the attack for much of the match and out-shot the Saints 17-6 on the day, but could not break open the deadlock as the CSS keeper turned away seven shots on goal. However, in the 82nd minute, Macalester all-region forward
Emily Bardwell (Sr., Denver, Colo. / East) beat the goalkeeper from the right side for the first goal of the season.
Just three minutes later,
Lauryn Gutierrez (Sr., Hickory, N.C. / St. Stephen's) sealed the win with a score as Mac went up 2-0.
Jordan Eckstein (Sr., Northampton, Mass.) assisted on Bardwell's goal and
Georgia Cloepfil (Fy., Portland, Ore. / Lincoln) picked up the assist on the Gutierrez goal.
Rosie Glenn-Finer (So., San Francisco, Calif. / Lick Wilmerding) registered a couple saves in net to post the shutout.
Macalester plays its home opener Sunday (Sept. 5) against Loras (Ia.) at 1 p.m. The game, as is the case with all Mac home matches, will once again feature
live webcasting.
