Macalester won a big 1-0 home field match over MIAC rival Carleton as the Scots move over .500 and into fourth place in the early MIAC standings at 2-1-1. The battle was well-played by both sides and closely contested, and in the end, Mac's strong defensive effort held up allowed Emily Bardwell's (Jr., Denver, Colo. / East) goal at the midway point of the first half to stand as the game-winner.

Kat Lenhart (Fy., Fairview, N.C. / A.C. Reynolds) assisted on Bardwell's team-leading sixth goal of the season at 22:46 and goalkeeper Tressa Versteeg (Jr., Pella, Ia.) turned away five Carleton shots on goal.

Bardwell and Lauryn Gutierrez (Jr., Hickory, N.C. / St. Stephen's) each fired a couple shots on net as the Scots gained a 7-5 advantage in that category. Mac out-shot the Knights 14-9 overall and had a 3-1 lead in corner kicks.

Mac avenges losses to the Knights last year in the regular season (2-1) and MIAC playoffs (3-0).

The Scots are back in action in just two nights when they host Bethel on Friday (Oct. 2) at 7:30 p.m.
