Macalester vs. St. Olaf box score
Macalester and St. Olaf played half their big MIAC match Monday (April 20), with the Scots taking two of the three doubles matches before rain forced the match to be halted until Friday at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis. St. Olaf, however, rallied for four singles victories to earn a narrow 5-4 victory.
Six of Macalester's nine conference battles have been decided by 5-4 final scores (and another by a 6-3 tally) in what has been one of Mac's most exciting seasons ever. The Scots are now 11-6 on the spring campaign and 5-4 in the MIAC. Macalester can still get into the six-team conference post-season tournament next weekend. The Scots are 3-3 in one-point MIAC decisions.
The Scots can clinch a post-season berth with an upset over Carleton in the finale. If Concordia beats St. Benedict Sunday, the Scots will make the playoffs. Macalester would also get in if Concordia loses all three of its remaining matches.
Macalester fought to close doubles wins Monday at Hayden Tennis Courts.
Angie Horner (Sr., Bismarck, N. D. / Century) and
Stephanie Lee (Jr., Camarillo, Calif. / Oaks Christian) took a 9-8 victory at No. 1 and at No. 3,
Becky Schneider (Sr., Larchmont, N.Y. / Mamaroneck) and
Amanda Wenzel (Jr., Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) won 8-4.
The team's singles win were provided by Horner at No. 1 and Lee at No. 2.
