Macalester and Carleton switched positions in the MIAC standings as the Knights moved into second and the Scots dropped to third when Carleton rolled to 10-5 and 15-2 wins in Northfield. The Scots are now 17-15 on the year and 8-6 in the conference. Carleton is 16-14 overall and 8-4 in the MIAC.
Macalester's eight-game conference winning streak, which saw the team move from an 0-4 start to second place in the standings, is over. Mac is now one of five teams two games over .500 in the MIAC, along with St. Olaf, Bethel, Augsburg and Hamline. Carleton, another MIAC upstart, has won eight of its last nine league games and trails only St. Thomas for the top spot.
Carleton scored four times in the first inning in the opener and jumped out quickly in the second game to a 7-0 lead after two frames, and was never in danger in either game. The Knights pounded out 31 hits on the day, including nine for extra bases.
Mac's top hitter on the day was
Nate Wilson-Traisman (Jr., Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene), who went 4-for-6 with an RBI in each game. Wilson-Traisman is now batting .449 with 39 runs driven in on the campaign. Adding three hits each were
Devin English (Jr., Annapolis, Md. / DeMatha) and
Garrett Salzman (Fy., Glendale, Calif. / St. Francis).
The Scots will try to get back to their winning ways Saturday (April 25) when they play Hamline at Midway Stadium at 1 p.m.
