Conference-leading Gustavus Adolphus, going for its 16th consecutive MIAC crown, put an end to Macalester's 10-match winning streak by stopping the Scots 7-2 at the Macalester Tennis Courts. The Gusties improve to 14-9 on the spring campaign and 5-0 in the MIAC. The Scots, who were trying to tie an all-time best program win streak, fall for the first time since a one-point setback March 7 to Concordia-Moorhead. They are now 10-5 overall and 4-3 in the MIAC.
All-conference standouts
Stephanie Lee (Jr., Camarillo, Calif. / Oaks Christian) and
Amanda Wenzel (Jr., Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) accounted for Macalester's two wins.
Lee bounced back from a 0-6 first set loss to win the next two 6-1 and 10-6 at No. 2 singles, and at No. 3, Wenzel battled from behind to win 6-7 (5-7 tie-breaker), 6-4 and 10-8. Wenzel is 13-2 on the season and Lee improves to 11-4.
Mac's
Angie Horner (Jr., Bismarck, N.D. / Century) lost for the first time this spring after 14 straight wins, dropping a 3-6, 6-4, 5-10 classic to GAC star Sierra Krebsbach at first singles. Horner and Lee also fell in an 8-6 match at No. 1 doubles.
The Scots play two more home matches the next two days, hosting St. Catherine tomorrow at noon and St. Olaf on Monday at 5 p.m., as they attempt to start a new win streak.
