Macalester toppled Bethel 7-2 in Arden Hills to extend its winning streak to 10 matches. This is the first double-digit streak for the Scots since the team won 11 in a row in 1999. The Scots improve to 10-4 on the season and 4-2 in the MIAC. The Royals are 1-8 overall and 0-5 in the MIAC.
The Scots are tied with St. Olaf for fourth place in the MIAC standings at 4-2, trailing Gustavus (4-0), Carleton (7-1) and St. Thomas (6-3).
Mac won five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets, getting victories from
Angie Horner (Jr., Bismarck, N.D. / Century) at No. 1;
Stephanie Lee (Jr., Camarillo, Calif. / Oaks Christian) at No. 2;
Amanda Wenzel (Jr., Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) at No. 3;
Lauren Dutkiewicz (So., St. Charles, Ill. / North) at No. 5; and
Becky Schneider (Sr., Larchmont, N.Y. / Mamaroneck) at No. 6.
Horner and Lee boosted their doubles record to 11-3 with an 8-4 win at first doubles. They are 29-5 at No. 1 over the past two seasons. Also earning an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles were Schneider and Wenzel.
The Scots face a major challenge going for their 11th win in a row when they host MIAC power Gustavus on Saturday (April 18) at 4 p.m.
