Macalester vs. St. Thomas box score
Less than 24 hours after watching his men's team drop a heart-breaking 5-4 decision to neighborhood rival St. Thomas, Macalester head tennis coach
Jason Muhl witnessed another one-point defeat when the Scots fell to the Tommies in women's tennis Saturday at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville.
The Tommies and the Scots were picked third and fourth, respectively, in the MIAC coaches' pre-season poll and this early-season match lived up to its billing.
The best matches were at first and second doubles. UST came out on top 8-6 at No. 2, but Macalester's
Stephanie Lee (Jr., Camarillo, Calif. / Oaks Christian) and
Angie Horner (Jr., Bismarck, N.D.) responded with a 9-7 thriller at No. 1 doubles.
Macalester won at first, third and fifth singles. Horner, who went 19-1 last spring at No. 1, cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win at the top of the order.
Amanda Wenzel (Jr., Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) won a quick 6-2, 6-1 match at No. 3, and at fifth singles,
Kelli Crescenti (Fy., Los Angeles, Calif. / Hart) battled to a 6-3, 1-6, (11-9) victory.
The Scots take on Luther (Ia.) Saturday (Feb. 28) in Rochester.
