Macalester received goals from
Emily Bardwell (Jr., Denver, Colo. / East),
Lauryn Gutierrez (Jr., Hickory, N.C. / St. Stephen's) and
Maddie Mette (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.) to defeat visiting Bethel 3-0 Friday night in St. Paul. The Scots hold on to third place in the conference standings, improving to 7-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the MIAC. The Royals are now 7-3-1 on the year, 1-3-1 in MIAC play.
The Scots are 3-0-1 since losing to UW-Eau Claire, having sacrificed just one goal in the four games. Macalester is now 16-0-1 all-time against Bethel.
Maddy Cochrane (Sr., Grand Marais, Minn. / Cook County) assisted on Bardwell's team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 34th minute to open the scoring. Five minutes into the second period, Gutierrez gave Macalester a safer cushion with her fourth goal, taking advantage of an
Emily Humphreys (Fy., Eau Claire, Wis. / Memorial) pass. Mette beat the goalkeeper high, just under the cross bar, on a free kick from 30 yards away to close out the scoring. This was the second career goal for the Mac all-conference sweeper.
Macalester out-shot the Royals 16-13, including 8-3 in shots on net. Goalkeeper
Tressa Versteeg (Jr., Pella, Ia.) made three saves to post her fifth shutout and lower her goals against average to 0.85.
