Macalester vs. Bethel statistics
Macalester launched 14 shots on goal, but suffered a heart-breaking 2-1 overtime loss to Bethel in an MIAC match in Arden Hills. The Scots drop under .500 at 5-6-1 overall and are now 2-2 in the MIAC. Bethel stays among the league-leaders and is now 7-3-1 on the year, 3-1-1 in the MIAC.
Scott Petesch (Sr., Bethesda, Md. / Walter Johnson) scored his first goal of the season five minutes before the halftime break to give the visiting Scots a 1-0 advantage at the intermission.
Bethel, however, responded with a Brandon Peplinski score in the 58th minute and a game-winning overtime goal by Brian Holm.
Goalkeeping play kept the contest low-scoring despite 24 shots on goal. BU's Nick Kantor turned away 13 shots on net, including three by Petesch and two each by
Jesse Geary (So., Duluth, Minn. / Marshall) and
Jake Duscha (Jr., St. Paul, Minn. / Highland Park). Macalester keeper
Matt Weyer (So., Cedarburg, Wis.) registered eight saves before the Royals netted the game-winner.
Bethel picks up its first victory over Macalester in 15 years.
The Scots will attempt to get over the .500 mark in the MIAC when they play Tuesday (Oct. 6) at Gustavus.
