Macalester vs. Northwestern box score

The Scots hit the double-digit level in wins, improving to 10-2 on the year with a 5-2 non-conference triumph at Northwestern-Roseville. Close matches at fifth and sixth singles were left unfinished due to the setting in of darkness. The Scots, with their fifth straight victory since a 5-4 defeat to Allegheny (Pa.), won matches at the first three singles positions.

After taking two of the three doubles matches, the Scots clinched things by winning at first, second and third singles. Angie Horner (So., Bismarck, N.D. / Century) brought her season record to 11-1 at first singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win. Stephanie Lee (So., Camarillo, Calif. / Oaks Christian) is right behind Horner with a 10-2 singles slate after battling to a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory at No. 2. At No. 3 singles, Amanda Wenzel (So., Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) played to a quick 6-1, 6-1 win. Wenzel is now 8-3 on the year.

The No. 15-ranked doubles team in the Central Region, Lee and Horner won 8-3 at No. 1 and at No. 3 doubles, Anna Peschel (Sr., St. Paul, Minn. / Central) and Becky Schneider (Jr., Larchmont, N.Y. / Mamaroneck) took an 8-3 set at No. 3. Peschel and Schneider are now 8-1 as a doubles tandem.

Macalester is in third place in the MIAC standings at 4-1 and the up-and-coming Scots face a major test Saturday (April 5) when they play at 10 a.m. match at St. Thomas. The Tommies, along with Gustavus, are unbeaten in league play and come into the big match at 5-0 in the MIAC and 12-1 overall.
