Macalester vs. St. Thomas box score
Macalester's most-successful women's tennis season ended when No. 2-seeded St. Thomas beat the No. 3 Scots 5-2 in an MIAC semi-final match at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. St. Thomas went on to fall to Gustavus in the title match.
Macalester, which edged Carleton 5-4 a day earlier in the quarter-finals, finishes its spring campaign at 15-5 overall after going through the MIAC regular-season with an 8-2 slate.
In his third year in charge of the Macalester program,
Jason Muhl was selected by his peers as
MIAC Coach of the Year. Muhl, who also coaches the Mac men's team, has guided the Scots to remarkable progress as the team has improved from 1-9 in the league in 2006 and 3-7 last year.
The Scots picked up wins over the Tommies at first singles and first doubles.
Angie Horner (So., Bismarck, N.D. / Century) and
Stephanie Lee (So., Camarillo, Calif. / Oaks Christian) battled their way to a 9-8 triumph at No. 1 singles, avenging a defeat to UST's top duo in the regular-season and finish the campaign with a 16-2 doubles record at No. 1.
Horner wrapped up her outstanding sophomore season with a 19 wins in 20 matches by earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles.
