Macalester edged Carleton 5-4 in an MIAC quarter-final playoff battle at Gustavus Adolphus College and will advance to Saturday morning's semi-final contest with No. 2-seeded St. Thomas. The Scots split the six singles matches, with the difference being a 2-1 Mac advantage in doubles play.
The Scots boost their all-time best season record to 15-4 and the Knights close out at 7-10 after a 5-5 MIAC regular-season. Mac went 8-2 in the MIAC campaign

Angie Horner (So., Bismarck, N.D. / Century) and
Stephanie Lee (So., Camarillo, Calif. / Oaks Christian) took an 8-6 match at No. 1 doubles and at No. 2, the team of
Becky Nieber (Jr., Madison, Wis. / East) and
Amanda Wenzel (So., Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) won by an 8-5 tally.
Mac's singles wins came at No.1, No. 2 and No. 5. Horner came out on top of a 6-1, 7-5 decision at first singles to improve to 18-1 on the spring season. At No. 2, Lee battled to a key a 3-6, 7-6, 11-9 comeback victory, and at No. 5 singles,
Jenna Harris (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio / Seven Hills) was dominant in a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Macalester and St. Thomas play tomorrow at 9 a.m. The Tommies are 16-3.
