Macalester vs. Concordia box score
Macalester held on to its third-place spot in the MIAC standings by edging Concordia 5-4 in Moorhead. The Scots started off by claiming wins in two of the three doubles matches and also won at the top three singles positions to improve to 5-2 in MIAC play.
All three doubles matches were closely played. Mac's
Angie Horner (So., Bismarck, N.D. / Century) and
Stephanie Lee (So., Camarillo, Calif. / Oaks Christian) took an 8-4 set at No. 1, while at No. 3 doubles, the Scots picked up an 8-6 victory from
Anna Peschel (Sr., St. Paul, Minn. / Central) and
Becky Schneider (Jr., Larchmont, N.Y. / Mamaroneck).
Horner took a quick 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, Lee won a 3-6, 7-6, 10-5 battle at No. 2, and at third singles,
Amanda Wenzel (So., Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) won 6-1, 7-6.
The Scots are in the thick of the race for the six-team MIAC tournament and close out the regular season next week with three home matches, perhaps needing a win or two to clinch a spot. Macalester plays host Monday (April 14) to Carleton at 5 p.m., Thursday (April 17) to Bethel at 5 p.m. and Saturday (April 19) to St. Benedict at 9 a.m. The MIAC tourney is scheduled for April 25-26 in St. Peter.
