Macalester vs. St. Catherine box score
Macalester continued its excellent start to the season by beating St. Catherine 8-1 at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis. The Scots improve to a perfect 4-0 on the campaign and move to 3-0 in the MIAC, matching their conference win total from a year ago.
The Scots won everything but a narrow defeat match at No. 4 singles. On the year, Macalester is 21-3 in singles play and 10-2 in doubles competition.
Angie Horner (So., Bismarck, N.D. / Century) started off the top of the singles lineup with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Stephanie Lee (So., Camarillo, Calif. / Oaks Christian) won a pair of 6-3 sets at second singles, and at No. 3, Amanda Wenzel (So., Green Bay, Wis. / Southwest) took a quick 6-0, 6-2 match.
Jenna Harris (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio / Seven Hills) claimed a 6-4, 6-1 match at fifth singles and at No. 6, Becky Schneider (Jr., Larchmont, N.Y. / Mamaroneck) won the closest singles match of the night with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph.
Horner and Lee won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles; Wenzel and Becky Nieber (Jr., Madison, Wis. / East) won 8-3 at No. 2, and Anna Peschel (Sr., St. Paul, Minn. / Central) and Schnieder came out on top 8-1 at No. 3.
The Scots travel to St. Peter Friday to challenge No. 11-ranked Gustavus, the 16-time defending MIAC champs. Mac, Gustavus and St. Thomas are the three remaining unbeaten MIAC teams. The team then flies to Hilton Head, South Carolina, over Spring Break for matches March 16-21.
