Macalester's women split a pair of decisions with MIAC rivals at a triangular meet at the College of St. Catherine. The Scots defeated St. Mary's 122-82 and lost to St. Kate's 125-104. Mac's men dropped a 134-77 decision to St. Mary's.
Event-winners for the men were Seth McIntire (Jr., Seattle, Wash. / Garfield) in the 50-yard freestyle (26.77), Nathan Young (Fy., Denver, Colo. / Littleton) in the 100 backstroke (55.93) and Mitch Stepleton (So., Boulder, Colo. / Fairview) in the 500 free (5:19.48). The Scots also took first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.72).
The Macalester women swam to first place finishes in six out of 13 events. Katharine Heg (So., Houston, Tex. / Oakridge) led the way by winning both the 1650-yard freestyle (20:16.37) and 500-yard free (5:50.82).
Anna Gajewski (So., Wausau, Wis. / East) won the 100 free (58.04) and the Scots won the 200-yard medley relay (2:00.90) and 200 freestyle relay (1:54.97).
The Scots host the 11th annual Macalester Invitational tomorrow at the College of St. Catherine.
