NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming & diving team had some standout performances but lost in the team scoring to Carleton, 166.5-129.5 in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Thorpe Pool.
The Scots won six individual events, with senior
Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) and sophomore
Molly Nuckolls (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) each winning two events. Uhlhorn-Thornton placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.76) and won the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.27). She also finished second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:20.89. Nuckolls won the 1000-yard freestyle (11:06.38) and took first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:28.73).
Senior
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) finished first in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:19.87. Senior
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) also placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.91.
Others swimming well included senior
Nadia Lanz (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), who was second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.04) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:17.50); sophomore
Amalia Shields (Madison, Wis./Madison West), who was second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.52) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (56.37); sophomore
Annika Hensel (Houston, Texas/St. John's School), who took third in the 200 butterfly (2:27.00); sophomore
Carolyn Wolking (Micanopy, Fla./Santa Fe College), who took third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:38.67); and first year
Poppy Wedding (Madison, Wis./Middleton), who finished third in the 200 IM (2:22.87).
In the diving events, first year
Ainsley Kashatus (Washington, D.C./Holton Arms School) took second on both the 1-meter board (254.65) and 3-meter board (261.35). Sophomore
Zahra Wooden (Shoreline, Wash./Holy Names Academy) placed third on the 1-meter board, while sophomore
Alex Koplovsky (Jamestown, R.I./North Kingstown) finished third on the 3-meter board.
Macalester will host the Twin Cities Invite on Saturday, Nov. 15. The meet begins at 11:00 a.m. at Riley Pool.
