DECORAH, Iowa – The Macalester College women's swimming & diving team finished second out of eight teams at the Luther Invitational, which was held Friday and Saturday and included preliminary heats and A, B and C finals. The Scots scored 655 points to finish behind only Gustavus.

First year diver Ainsley Kashatus (Washington, D.C./Holton Arms School) earned a victory on the 1-meter board, scoring 426.90 points. She also placed fifth on the 3-meter board with a score of 413.50. Senior Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.63. She also was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.79) and fifth in the 100-yard individual medley (1:03.47). Sophomore Molly Nuckolls (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) finished first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:11.56. She also took second in both the 1650-yard freestyle (17:59.76) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:13.25), and was sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.62).

Others swimming well included senior Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith), who took second in the 100-yard backstroke in 59.45 and was fourth in the 100 butterfly in 59.94. Sophomore Carolyn Wolking (Micanopy, Fla./Santa Fe College) had a busy day, taking second in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.78) and fourth in the 100 IM (1:03.18) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.57). Sophomore Maya Téllez (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) was third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.73) and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.30). Senior Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) placed third in the 200 butterfly (2:15.75).

First year Ella Franklin (Tucson, Ariz./University) took fifth in the 500 free (5:21.38). Sophomore Amalia Shields (Madison, Wis./Madison West) finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle and the 200 free, while first year Jay Young (Arlington, Va.) was sixth in the 100 IM and seventh in the 400 IM.

First year Poppy Wedding (Madison, Wis./Middleton) took sixth in the 400-yard individual medley, placed seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke and finished eighth in the 200-yard IM. Sophomore Annika Hensel (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) was seventh in the 200 butterfly, and senior Nadia Lanz (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) took seventh in the 100 IM. First year Kayla Chapman (Happy Valley, Ore./LaSalle Catholic College Prep) was eighth in the 100 backstroke.

In the relays, the foursome of Henry, Uhlhorn-Thornton, Zurn and Shields placed second in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:01.18. The 800-yard relay team of Téllez, Franklin, Nuckolls and Shields finished third in 8:00.90. Chapman, Uhlhorn-Thornton, Shields and junior Megan Chopskie (Cloquet, Minn./Esko) took third in 1:50.31.

Macalester's hosts the annual Roger Ahlman Invitational on Dec. 5-6 at Riley Pool
