ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's cross country team climbed five spots into fifth in the North Region in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings, which were released today.

This past Friday, the Scots finished second among eight teams, behind Carleton, at the Toni St. Pierre Invitational, hosted by Saint Benedict and Saint John's. Macalester totaled 49 points, 23 behind leader Carleton and 44 ahead of third-place St. Scholastica. Senior Ingrid Norquist (Minneapolis, Minn./Anoka) won the race by almost 19 seconds, earning MIAC Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season. The Scots' top five runners all finished in the top 16 out of the 116 runners in the field.

UW-La Crosse is ranked first in the North Region ahead of Carleton, St. Olaf, UW-Eau Claire and Macalester. UW-Stevens Point is sixth, followed by UW-Oshkosh, UW-River Falls, St. Scholastica and Ripon.

Macalester's next race is Oct. 3 at the Pre-Nationals Meet, held at Carleton in Northfield, Minn.
