ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's cross country team is ranked No. 7 in the North Region in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings, which were released today.
Last Saturday the Scots competed in the Navy Championship Division at Carleton's Pre-Nationals Meet, held on the same course that will host the NCAA Division III Championships this fall. Macalester finished 23rd out of 35 teams, all of which were ranked in the top 10 of their respective regions heading into the race. Senior
Ingrid Norquist (Minneapolis, Minn./Anoka) placed 10th overall and was the first MIAC runner to finish, earning MIAC Athlete of the Week honors earlier today. She was second among North Region competitors behind only Ripon's Joley Berger, who was sixth overall.
All 10 teams in this week's North Region rankings competed at Pre-Nationals, including top-ranked UW-La Crosse, who was second on Saturday behind Williams. UW-Eau Claire moved from fourth to second after taking 12th, followed by Carleton, St. Olaf and UW-Stevens Point to round out the top five. UW-Oshkosh is sixth, Macalester is seventh and UW-River Falls is eighth, with Ripon changing places with St. Scholastica for ninth and 10th.
Next up for Macalester is the Augustana College Interregional invitational on Oct. 17 in Rock Island, Ill.
