ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the third time this fall, Macalester College senior
Ingrid Norquist (Minneapolis, Minn./Anoka) was named the MIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year for the week ending Oct. 4, the conference announced today. Norquist, who has earned the weekly honor every time it has been awarded this season, was the top MIAC finisher at the Pre-Nationals Meet on Saturday at Carleton.
Competing against several of the top runners in Division III, Norquist finished 10th in a field of 324 runners, covering the 6-kilometer course in 21:44.3. In a race that included the top 10 teams in the North Region and four MIAC teams, she was the top MIAC finisher by over 30 seconds and the second runner from the North Region to cross the finish line. Norquist's performance helped the Scots finish 23rd out of the 35-team field that included 18 of the top 27 teams in Division III.
So far this season, Norquist has posted wins at the Ole Opener on Sept. 4 and the Toni St. Pierre Invitational on Sept. 18. Last season she was sixth at the MIAC Championships and finished ninth at the North Region Meet to earn both All-MIAC and All-Region honors. Her performance at the regional meet qualified her for the NCAA Championships, where she placed 81st.
Macalester heads to Rock Island, Ill., for the Augustana College Interregional Invitational at Saukie Golf Course on October 17.
