ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's cross country team debuted in the North Region rankings this week at No. 6, the USTFCCCA announced today. The Scots have won both of their races this fall, including last Friday's Toni St. Pierre Invitational, hosted by Saint John's and Saint Benedict.

Macalester totaled 38 points, ahead of second-place Bethel with 59 and third-place Saint John's with 62. All five scorers for the Scots finished in the top 11, led by junior John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), who placed third individually. The spread between Macalester's top five runners was just under 32 seconds. The performance followed a first-place finish out of five teams at the St. Olaf Ole Opener on Sept. 4.

UW-La Crosse remains the top-ranked team in the North Region, followed by UW-Stevens Point, St. Olaf, UW-Stout and Milwaukee School of Engineering. Macalester enters the rankings at No. 6, with UW-River Falls in seventh, UW-Whitewater in eighth, Carleton in ninth and Bethel in 10th.

Macalester will compete at the Pre-Nationals Meet at Carleton College on Oct. 3 in Northfield, Minn.
