NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College men's cross country team finished 32nd of 35 teams in the Navy Championship race at Pre-Nationals, hosted by Carleton College Saturday afternoon. The pre-nationals competition draws a highly competitive field as schools become familiar with the course in anticipation of the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in November.
Junior
John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) led the Scots, taking 121st place off a season-best time of 25:51.1 in the 8-kilometer course. Senior
Quinn Hoisington (Seattle, Wash./Lincoln) placed 162 in 26:09.3, a personal best. Junior
Caleb Hatlevig (Stow, Mass./Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School) was five seconds behind, taking 171st in 26:14.3. First year
Liam Paulson (Portland, Ore./Grant) also notched points for the Scots, taking 252nd with 26:58.6 alongside sophomore
Chase Fitterer (Spokane, Wash./International School of Business) came in 266th with 27:08.0.
The men's team also competed in the Men's Open 8-kilometer race later that afternoon at the same course. There, the Scots all finished within 36 seconds of each other. Senior
Gabe Thompson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) earned 93rd in 27:52.8 with first-year
Hazel Small (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) just behind at 99th in 28:01.5. Sophomore
Max Mortensen (Chicago, Ill.\Lane Tech College Prep) and junior
Sam Parsons (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) finished within one second of each other for 103rd and 105th, respectively.
