COLD SPRING, Minn. – The Macalester College men's cross country team finished first out of six teams at the Toni St. Pierre Invitational, hosted by Saint John's and Saint Benedict Friday evening at River Oaks Golf Club. The win follows a victory at the Ole Opener in the first race of the season on Sept. 4.

Junior John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) was the first Macalester runner across the finish line, taking third in the 8-kilometer course with a time of 25:54.8. The next four Scots all finished in the top 11, with senior Quinn Hoisington (Seattle, Wash./Lincoln) placing seventh in 26:10.1. Junior Caleb Hatlevig (Stow, Mass./Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School) took eighth in 26:11.7, sophomore Donovan Connole (West Hartford, Conn./William H. Hall) was ninth with a time of 26:25.5, and senior Owen Lafferty (Woodbury, Minn./Mounds Park Academy) finishing 11th in 26:26.7. The spread between Macalester's top five runners was just under 32 seconds.

First year Liam Paulson (Portland, Ore./Grant), sophomore Chase Fitterer (Spokane, Wash./International School of Business) and first year Matt Schmersal (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) also ran well, finishing 13th, 16th and 19th, respectively.

Macalester will compete at the Pre-Nationals Meet at Carleton College on Oct. 3 in Northfield, Minn.
