ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College baseball team is the No. 2 seed for the MIAC Playoffs, which begin on Thursday, May 7 at CHS Field in Lowertown St. Paul. The Scots will face No. 3 seed Saint John's on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament that will determine who will earn the MIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Scots, coached by
Matt Parrington, finished the regular season with an overall record of 26-14, tying the program record for the most wins in a season. Macalester posted a 15-5 mark in conference play for the most MIAC wins since the 2011 squad won the regular-season title with a record of 16-4. This is the fifth appearance in the MIAC Playoffs since their inception in 2000 for the Scots, who won the championship in 2017 to advance to the program's first NCAA Tournament. Macalester also made the MIAC Playoffs in 2000, 2011 and 2018.
Saint John's (24-14) earned the No. 3 seed after registering a 13-7 record in MIAC play. Earlier this season, the Scots split a doubleheader with the Johnnies on April 21, winning the first game, 3-2 with a walk-off single by senior
Niko Alexander (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) in the bottom of the seventh. Saint John's took the second game, 10-2. The two teams have played once in the MIAC Playoffs, with Macalester winning, 3-1 to eliminate the Johnnies in 2011.
The other game on Thursday features MIAC regular-season champion Bethel (29-8, 17-3 MIAC) against No. 4 seed Saint Mary's (24-15, 12-8 MIAC) at 2:30 p.m. The winners of Thursday's game will meet on Friday at 3:00 p.m., while the losers will play at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The conference champion will be determined on Saturday. All MIAC Playoff games will be played at
CHS Field, home of the St. Paul Saints.
