ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team will take on fourth-seeded St. Catherine University in the quarterfinals of the MIAC Playoffs Tuesday afternoon. The Scots (10-8) are seeded fifth after posting a 5-5 record in conference play this season.
The dual begins at 3:30 p.m. at St. Catherine's on-campus tennis courts.
Macalester, coached by Chase Johnson, is led by seniors Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy), who are 10-7 as the Scots' No. 1 doubles tandem. Haugen has registered a 13-5 record at No. 1 singles, while Trevathan boasts a 13-4 mark at No. 2 singles. First year Darrian Streater (Redmond, Ore./Redmond Proficiency Academy) has had a solid debut season, going 10-7 at No. 4 singles and 8-9 playing with fellow first year Isabella Tamburrino (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal School) at No. 2 doubles.
Earlier this season, Macalester lost to St. Kate's (15-5, 7-3 MIAC), 5-2 at Baseline Tennis Center on April 11. Haugen and Trevathan won their match at No. 1 doubles and were both victorious in singles. Tamburrino lost at No. 3 singles in a tie-breaker to Marie Pelletier.
This is the Scots' fifth appearance in the MIAC Playoffs since the playoffs began in 2007, and the first since 2024. That year Macalester lost a close dual to St. Catherine, 5-4 in the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinal winners will advance to face either the No. 1 seed Gustavus or the No. 2 seed Carleton on Thursday, April 30. The championship will be played on Saturday, May 2 at the highest remaining seed.
