ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College first year outfielder John McMurray (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends) was chosen the MIAC Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending April 19, the league announced today. McMurray helped the Scots win all five of their games last week, batting .550 (11-for-20) with four doubles, a home run, six runs and nine runs batted in.

McMurray, who posted a slugging percentage of .900 for the week, started the week off by hitting a double and scoring the tying run in the ninth inning of Macalester's 2-1 walk-off win against the University of Northwestern on Monday. He then helped Macalester sweep Saint Mary's on Wednesday, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs in another walk-off 9-inning win in Game 1, and leading the Scots to a 7-6 victory in Game 2 with a 3-run homer and the go-ahead RBI. McMurray closed the week by going 4-for-7 with three runs and three RBIs, including a 3-for-3 performance with a double and two runs in Game 1, to help the Scots sweep Carleton on Sunday.

The week improved Macalester to 22-10 overall and 11-3 in conference play to strengthen its hold on second place in the MIAC standings.

McMurray, who was named the MIAC Player of the Week on March 2, has had a standout first year with the Scots. In 31 games played, he is batting a team-beat .414 with 48 hits, eight doubles, two home runs, 30 runs scored and 34 RBIs. McMurray leads the MIAC in hits while ranking second in average and third in RBIs.

The Scots host Saint John's on Tuesday, April 21 in a key MIAC doubleheader. The first game starts at 2:30 p.m. at Nicholson Field.
