MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – For the third straight year, senior
Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) won the 100-yard breaststroke, as the Macalester College women's swimming & diving team swam well on Day 3 of the MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships, held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center Friday night. Uhlhorn-Thornton was one of four swimmers to earn All-MIAC honors for the Scots, who are in third place with 385.50 points.
Uhlhorn-Thornton won the 100 breaststroke with a school-record time of 1:04.66, breaking her own record of 1:04.89. Also in the 100 breaststroke, sophomore
Carolyn Wolking (Micanopy, Fla./Santa Fe College) took eighth and junior
Nicole Tilzer (Tampa, Fla/Sickles) finished 15th.
Senior
Nadia Lanz (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) was one of five Scots to qualify for Friday night's finals in the 400-yard individual medley. Lanz earned All-MIAC status with a third-place finish in 4:38.47. First year
Poppy Wedding (Madison, Wis./Middleton) received All-MIAC honorable mention with a fifth-place finish in 4:45.24, while sophomore
Molly Nuckolls (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) took seventh with a time of 4:46.63. In the B final, sophomore
Annika Hensel (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) placed 10th and first
Jay Young (Arlington, Va.) was 11th.
Senior
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) was second in the 100-yard butterfly in 58.12 to earn All-MIAC honors. Sophomore
Maya Téllez (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) posted an All-MIAC swim with a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.01. Sophomore
Amalia Shields (Madison, Wis./Madison West) also made the A final and placed sixth in 1:56.71 to receive All-MIAC honorable mention, while senior
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) made the B final and took 12th.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Lanz finished 12th and first year
Kayla Chapman (Happy Valley, Ore./LaSalle Catholic College Prep) placed 14th.
Macalester's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Henry, Shields, Téllez and Uhlhorn-Thornton finished fifth with a time of 1:38.45.
The MIAC Championships conclude on Saturday, with sessions at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
