ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming & diving team turned in a strong performance but fell, 163-136 to St. Olaf College Saturday afternoon at Riley Pool.
The Scots earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as the foursome of seniors
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith),
Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) and
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson), and sophomore
Amalia Shields (Madison, Wis./Madison West) posted a time of 1:52.89.
First year
Jay Young (Arlington, Va.) captured the 1000-yard freestyle title with a winning time of 11:08.10. Young also won the 500-yard freestyle title in 5:26.54. Uhlhorn-Thornton won the 200-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 2:30.59. She also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.19. Sophomore
Molly Nuckolls (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) placed first the 200-yard butterfly in 2:15.64. Sophomore
Maya Téllez (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.07, while Zurn followed in second with a time of 2:02.84. First year
Poppy Wedding (Madison, Wis./Middleton) won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:52.77, while Nuckolls finished second in 4:59.37.
Henry placed second in the 100-yard backstroke, touching in 1:00.76, and senior
Nadia Lanz (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) finished third in 1:02.10. Lanz also took third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:14.52. Sophomore
Carolyn Wolking (Micanopy, Fla./Santa Fe College) earned a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.92. Shields placed second in the 100-yard freestyle, touching in 56.34, and was third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.19. Téllez also took third in the 100 freestyle in 56.85.
In the diving events, first year diver
Ainsley Kashatus (Washington, D.C./Holton Arms School) placed second on the 1-meter board with a score of 409.30, and was runner-up on the 3-meter board with a score of 426.85..
The Scots closed the meet with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Henry, Shields, Zurn and Téllez combined for a winning time of 1:42.48.
Macalester returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 24 with a dual meet at home against Grinnell.
