ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's swimming & diving team defeated St. Olaf in the Scots' first dual meet of 2026. Macalester earned a 145-124 victory over the Oles Saturday afternoon at Riley Pool.
The Scots opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as sophomore
Kean Pajarillaga (Saipan, Marianas Pacific/Grace Christian Academy), senior
Will St. John (McGaheysville, Va./East Rockingham), and sophomores
Jack Schumacher (Golden, Colo./Lakewood) and
Max Taufen (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) combined for a winning time of 1:39.09.
Pajarillaga and Moore each won two individual events. Pajarillaga earned a victory in the 100-yard backstroke, posting a time of 53.32. He also won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.63, and placed second in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:29.11. Moore captured the 200-yard freestyle title, touching first in 1:46.60, and won the 100-yard freestyle in 48.10. He also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.62. First year
Edward Barnes (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:04.38 and took second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:04.34.
Others swimming well included junior
Ryan Mickelborough (Andover, Minn./Andover), who finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:20.80, while first year
Evan Fouts (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) placed third in 11:26.57. First year
Isaac Snaza (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) took second in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.99 and was third in the 400-yard IM in 4:34.12.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, St. John placed second in 1:01.92 ahead of senior
TJ Palli (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) in third with a time of 1:02.45. Schumacher finished second in the 200 butterfly in 2:08.57 and was third in the 100 butterfly in 55.54. Taufen placed second in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.09) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.03). Palli also took second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.17. Senior
Casey Meretta (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) placed third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.70.
The Scots closed the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Moore, Taufen, Meretta and Palli combined for a time of 1:28.14.
In the diving events, first year
Miles Remmel (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 107.20.
Macalester returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 24 with a dual meet at home against Grinnell.
