ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College senior
Bailey Lengfelder (Renton, Wash./Hazen) was named the MIAC Athlete of the Week for women's golf for the week ending Aug. 31, the conference announced today. Lengfelder won the Saint Benedict Invitational this weekend at Blackberry Ridge in Sartell, Minn., and led the Scots to the team title.
Lengfelder closed the two-round event with a 73 in the second round to finish atop the individual leaderboard with a two-round score of 151. The win marked Lengfelder's third medalist honor in her career at Macalester, and was an improvement over last year's 11th-place finish at this event. Lengfelder's low second round also spurred the Scots to a comeback win after trailing the host Bennies by eight strokes following the first round. Macalester posted a team score of 303 to defeat Saint Benedict by two strokes.
This is the second MIAC weekly award for Lengfelder, who was named the MIAC Athlete of the Week on April 9, 2024 as a sophomore. She is a three-time All-MIAC and All-Region honoree who holds program records for 18-, 36- and 54-hole scores.
Macalester returns to action next weekend at the Wartburg Fall Invitational Sept. 6-7 at Prairie Links Golf Club.
